The area is full of historic sites to visit from Etruscans tombs to Roman amphitheatres, from medieval castles to renaissance churches. It is also conveniently placed for trips into Tuscany and Umbria and of course Florence and Rome.

Grotte di Castro stands on hill at the north-west end of Lake Bolsena. It was built on an early Etruscan settlement that was destroyed by the Romans around the 3rd century b.c. The Etruscan tombs are being restored and can be to some extent visited. The present town dates back to the middle ages.

Then of course, there is the many historic towns and villages to visit including, Bolsena, Montefiascone, Viterbo, Bagnoregio, Sutri and Orvieto to name just a view.
